By now if you have attempted to read aloud any of the shlokas, you realize that they usually follow the same pattern &#8211; 2 lines per shloka, 2 quarters per line, 8 syllables per quarter. This meter used in most of the Gita is called &#8220;Anushtup Chhanda&#8221;. But in this shloka, we see for the first time that there are 3 lines instead of 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This pattern or &#8220;meter&#8221; is changed every so often to indicate that the listener should play close attention to a particular shloka, or the shlokas that follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s also look at another aspect that this shloka highlights. The core of the Gita is a dialogue between Shri Krishna and Arjuna. In ancient Indian literature, there exists a tradition of beginning important teachings or messages with the word &#8220;atha&#8221; which means now and after completion the word &#8220;eeti&#8221; used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pandavs and Kauravas both forfathers are same And both belongs to &#8220;kuru vansh&#8221;. Therefore, skillfully and meaningfully word dhirtrastra&#8217; sons and his supporters have been called as the bettle of Mahabharat is between between cousins of same family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shlokas so far covered introduction and background, but now, Arjuna starts the dialogue in the next verse, hence the word &#8220;atha&#8221; is used here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The emblem of Hanuman on the flag of Arjuna is another sign of victory because Hanuman cooperated with Lord Rama in the battle between Rama and Ravana, and Lord Rama emerged victorious. Now both Rama and Hanuman were present on the chariot of Arjuna to help him. Lord Krishna is Rama Himself, and wherever Lord Rama is, His eternal servitor Hanuman. Thus, all good counsel was available to Arjuna in the matter of executing the battle. In such auspicious conditions, arranged by the Lord for His eternal devotee, lay the signs of assured victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why Hanuman is on the flag of Arjun, it has two stories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once Arjun became very boastful of his archery skills and quipped at Shree Krishna. He said, \u201cI do not understand why during Lord Rama\u2019s time, the monkeys worked so hard to make a bridge from India to Lanka with heavy stones? If I was there, I would have made a bridge of arrows.\u201d The Omniscient Lord asked him, \u201cAlright, go ahead show me your bridge.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Very skillfully Arjun showered thousands of arrows and made a huge bridge. Now, it was time to test it. Shree Krishna called upon great Hanuman for the job. As soon as Hanuman started walking on the bridge, it started crumbling under his feet. Arjun realized his folly; his bridge of arrows could not have upheld the weight of Lord Rama\u2019s huge army. He asked for their forgiveness. Subsequently, Hanuman gave Arjun lessons on being humble and never be proud of his skills. He also granted Arjun a boon that, during the great war, he would seat himself on Arjun\u2019s chariot. Therefore, Arjun\u2019s chariot flag carried the insignia of the great Hanuman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another story, Bhima made a special request to Anjaneya: \u201cyou should come to the Mahabharatha battle and you should bless us so that we will get victory\u201d and therefore Anjaneya said that \u201cI will be in the form of an emblem on your flag and I will bless you\u201d and people say that Anjaneya also had therefore an opportunity to listen to Gita. Ramopadesa he listened. Krishnopadesam also he listened. There is a commentary on the Gita by Anjaneya. This is called paisaca bhasyam. Paisaca, one who did not have a physical form.
