One whose mind is unattached from all aspects, who is self-controlled, from whom desires have departed, attains the supreme state of freedom from action by sanyaasa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this last chapter, Shree Krishna repeats many of the principles he has already explained. In the beginning of this chapter, he explained to Arjun that merely running away from the responsibilities of life is not sany\u0101sa, nor is it renunciation. Now he describes the state of action lessness, or nai\u1e63hkarmya-siddhi. This state can be reached even amidst the flow of the world by detaching ourselves from events and outcomes, and simply focusing on doing our duty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most government jobs, and even private sector jobs, come with a built-in end date known as the retirement date, which signifies the culmination of career- related actions. Similarly, when we perform our duty observing the tenets of karma yoga, we will eventually reach a point where we are ready to move onto the next stage in the spiritual journey known as sanyaasa. The aashrama system in Indian culture appoints sanyaasa as the last aashrama, the last stage in life, where the individual should renounce all their duties and life a lifestle of a sanyaasi, a monk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karm yogis do their duty but keep the mind unaffected by the stream of events. They do not neglect putting in their best efforts in doing their duty, as an act of worship to God, but they leave the final outcome in his hands and are thus contented and undisturbed with whatever happens. \u201cGod alone knows what is best. Let him do what he feels is best.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He defines the karma y\u014dgi. Karma y\u014dgi is one who is sarvatra asaktabuddhi\u1e25; means one who is not attached to any external factor. The one who gradually grows out of external attachments, by discovering the fact that the world is neither a source of joy, nor a source of sorrow.  I who am confronting the world, that I alone must be the cause of sorrow and also the cause of happiness. Therefore, the change required is not outside but in myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And not only he has practised karma y\u014dga, parallelly he has practiced upasana also. Because we learn to sit for some time without distraction. So, all these are benefit of what, karma y\u014dga, he becomes asktha buddhi, free from attachment, vigatasp\u1e5bha\u1e25, free from desires, jit\u0101tma, master of his own equipments, sarvatra, under all circumstances and this alone is technically called s\u0101dhan\u0101 catu\u1e63\u1e6d\u0101ya sampathi. <\/strong>Hereafter alone, the crucial s\u0101dhan\u0101 has to begin, which is called j\u00f1\u0101na y\u014dga\u1e25. So, whether a person becomes a sany\u0101si or not, external sany\u0101sa is not relevant, if a person takes external sany\u0101sa and does everything else other than v\u0113d\u0101nta vic\u0101ra, it is useless. On the other hand, even if you continue in grihastha \u0101\u015brama, if you systematically do v\u0113d\u0101nta vic\u0101ra; you are all sany\u0101sis only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arjuna wanted to know the difference between tyaaga and sanyaasa at the beginning of this chapter. We can glean the primary difference from the teaching so far. The end goal of tyaaga or karma yoga is purity of mind, also known as sattva shuddhi. The end goal of sanyaasa is the attainment of brahman or the eternal essence. It is also known as naishkarmya siddhi, the state, the accomplishment where one becomes actionless, or all actions become totally spontaneous, like a river entering the ocean. There are no more internal cravings or external goals since one has completely transcended the effect of the three gunaas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
