Engaged in his own duty, each person attains the foremost accomplishment. How one can attain this accomplishment by being content in his duty, that you hear from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vedas recognized the system of varna as a means for every individual to realize their potential. They enabled everyone to contribute to society as per their mental makeup and aptitude. Every action performed in accordance with one\u2019s duty yielded a meritorious fruit or punya, and every, and every action that went against one\u2019s duty yielded a demerit or a paapa. The net result of punyas and paapas decided the fate of every individual. One would gain a life that was better or worse than the current one based on their actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swa-dharma is the prescribed duties based upon our gu\u1e47as and station in life. Performing them ensures that we use the potential abilities of our body and mind in a constructive and beneficial manner. This leads to purification and growth and is auspicious for the self and society. And since the prescribed duties are in accordance with our innate qualities, we feel comfortable and stable in discharging them. Then, as we enhance our competence, the swa-dharma also changes, and we step into the next higher class. In this manner, we keep advancing by dutifully executing our responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shri Krishna says whatever be the profession in which you are, you do not have to change at all. You have only to change the attitude with which you undertake those activities. He emphasises, to continue in your profession and to remain in your own profession. Selection of your profession always depends on your nature. You have develped certain nature by your hard work and dedication and some part of nature is inherent due to your birth in certain country means place, family and society or you can say, you get it from your ealier life as your fruit of karma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) Further, you have developed skill and excellence in any field only by long practice. If I keep on changing the profession, I will not get excellence in any field. Therefore, take your own time to choose the correct profession; but once you have chosen, you must be stick to it and do the hard work to touch the peak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is more to the performance of duty than the cycle of action, reaction and rebirth. Shri Krishna says that performance of duty can become the gateway towards liberation. As we have seen earlier, the Gita enables each and every individual, regardless of their occupation or stage in life, to pursue the path of liberation. We do not have to renounce our actions and become sadhus or monks. We just have to keep doing our duty. The result of doing our duty is samsiddhi, perfection, the foremost accomplishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) Shri Krishna says in one’s own chosen profession, He is always abhirata\u1e25; the word abhiratah means one should learn to be fully involved with fully dedication.  You do more and more research in improving the quality and in improving the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3) Therefore in any field choosen by you,  you can try to put your heart and soul, i.e. the meaning of the word; \u201cabhirata\u1e25;\u201d \u2019\u0930\u0902\u2019 ra\u1e41 means reveling, enjoying, abhira\u1e41, intimately enjoying; which means putting your heart and soul, in whatever you are undertaking; abhirata\u1e25; by taking to that and then convert Karma into karma y\u014dga, you do not have to change your profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also be noted, if you have selected wrong profession, in which you do not have any interest, but as inherentance business, you have to go for profession according to your swadharma first. because your profession needs dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4) By changing the attitude and by doing it properly you can gradually grow spiritually. Even the most worldly activity can contribute to inner growth; if it is properly handled. It brings you towards purity of mind, or to put in technical language, s\u0101dhan\u0101 catu\u1e63\u1e6daya sa\u1e41pathi or to put in another language, j\u00f1\u0101na y\u014dgyatha; or to put it in another language, more and more interest in spiritual knowledge. So, interest in spritual knowledge should increase, that is the indication of successful karma y\u014dga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ultimate goal of karma yoga is purification of the mind. It cleans the mind of all its impurities in the form of selfish desires created by raaga and dvesha, likes and dislikes. It is this purification of the mind that becomes the foremost accomplishment, samsiddhi, for one who is performing karma yoga. But mere performance of duty will not result in samsiddhi. There is something else needed, which Shri Krishna will reveal in the next shloka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
