One with likes, coveting the reward of action, greedy, cruel, impure, prone to joy and sorrow, such a doer is said to be raajasic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having described the saattvic doer or kartaa, Shri Krishna now speaks about the raajasic doer. For most of us, this is our normal or default state of mind whenever we perform any action. Raaga refers to likes, and also to its opposite factors, dvesha or dislikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The r\u0101jasic workers are being described here. While the s\u0101ttvic workers are motivated by the desire for spiritual growth, the r\u0101jasic workers are deeply ambitious for materialistic enhancement. They do not realize that everything here is temporary and will have to be left behind one day. Agitated with immoderate r\u0101g (desires of the mind and senses), they do not possess the purity of intention. They are convinced that the pleasure they seek is available in the things of the world. Hence, never satisfied by what comes their way, they are lubdha\u1e25 (greedy for more). When they see others succeeding or enjoying more than them, they become hins\u0101tmaka\u1e25 (enviously bent on injury). To fulfil their ends, they sometimes sacrifice morality, and hence become a\u015bhuchi\u1e25 (impure). When their desires are fulfilled, they become elated, and when they are daunted they get dejected. In this way, their lives become har\u1e63ha \u015bhoka anvita\u1e25 (a mixture of delights and sorrows).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to v\u0113d\u0101nta; the real success in life is using the external successes and failures for inner growth; meditate on this well. According to v\u0113d\u0101nta; the real success in life is, converting external successes and external failures as inner growth or inner learning. Therefore, S\u0101tvika kart\u0101 has an important attitude which r\u0101jasa kart\u0101 does not have. He performs his work as duty, irrespective of result in failure or success. He accepts both result gracefully whereas the result of failure gives depression to Rajaasic people, who works for gain in like or dislike manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He does not know the fundamental principle, that peace happiness and security, do not depend upon on what I have peace, security and happiness on what I have but they depend upon what I am. This difference this karmi does not know. Therefore, he thinks the externals will determine his peace of mind. Therefore karmaphalapr\u0113psu\u1e25, the one who is after name, fame, possession, position, status, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The passion to external karmpahalapresuh, makes him more and more greedy and cruel also. He will start violating dharma; because by legitimate earning, you cannot amaze wealth, therefore initially you work for legitimate earning; but gradually we will go in for compromise also. He turns to act for external winning by way of unethical manners or adopting D Company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A raajasic doer is always thinking – what is in it for me? This thought of coveting the reward of action shifts our attention away from the action, and consequently, losing focus from the action. Our motives are impure, since they are selfish. Once we get a personal reward, we want more like it, we become greedy. We sometimes do not hesitate to harm others who come in the way of our personal reward, we can become quite cruel towards them. We are also prone to elation and depression whenever there are temporary wins or setbacks in performing our actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
