Meaning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That which leaves, stays and experiences, that which is endowed with gunaas, is not recognized by the deluded. It is seen by those with the eye of wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, the previous verses are the preparatory verses. This is the crucial verse.<\/strong> So here alone Krishna says for a discerning mind, Brahman is recognisable in every activity of the individual, in every function of the J\u012bva. Just as the invisible electricity is discerned in every function of the electrical gadgets; in every function of the J\u012bva, Brahman is discerned. Of course, directly discern the function from the functions, we discern the cidabh\u0101sa; reflected consciousness; and from the reflected consciousness; we discern the original Conciousness, because we know that the original consciousness alone appears as the reflected consciousness. When you want to apply kumkumam or chandanam or vibh\u016bthi, you see the mirror and you see the face upon the mirror in front of you, and when you want to apply, you see the mirror but apply the tilakam, where? On your face, and not on the mirror, because you know that there is no difference that face and this face. What you see is that face, but what you discern or recognise is this face. And if you find a black dot on your face, but you wipe here. What does it mean? Seeing the \u0101bh\u0101sa mukham, you discern the original mukham. Similarly, I experience the \u0101bh\u0101sa caitanyam, every moment, I understand the original consciousness and therefore Krishna says mature people appreciate God in every breadth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We saw how a false “I” called the ego is created, by usurping the awareness or sentiency of the eternal essence. All this is possible through the illusory identification of the jeeva with the ego. Shri Krishna now wants to summarize and conclude the topic of the fall of the jeeva by distinguishing between those individuals who recognize, who know the lifecycle jeeva versus those who do not. He says that only those with the eye of wisdom can truly understand the notion of the jeeva as separate and distinct from the physical body, as well as the reason for its existence. Others cannot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several experiments have been conducted by scientists to find the soul, but the material instruments of the laboratories are no good to detect it. Hence, they conclude that all the bodily parts working together are the source of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, devoid of spiritual knowledge about the existence of the soul and its functions, the physiologists\u2019 theory is that the physical body itself along with its different parts is the source of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of us tend to think that the brain is sentient and self- aware, when it is inert and borrows awareness from the jeeva. Most of us think that what we our senses tell us is real, when it is actually nothing but the play of the three gunaas. Most of us derive enjoyment from the world, when our real nature is that of joy. Most of us think that the “I” is our ego, our ahankaara when it is actually the eternal essence. These incorrect beliefs are collectively termed as ajnyaana or ignorance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shree Krishna has said that the ignorant (vim\u016b\u1e0dh) are unaware of their own divine identity and presume the physical body to be the self.  Only someone who has acquired spiritual knowledge understands that it is the soul that gives life to the body. Without the soul, the body is lifeless. When a person dies, the material parts of the body; the heart, brain, lungs, limbs, etc. are there, but they don\u2019t function, as the soul has left the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consciousness is an indication of life or the presence of a soul in a physical body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jnyaana chakshu, the eye of wisdom, refers to those people who have removed all of these incorrect notions. They do not hesitate to challenge any thought, idea, concept or emotion since all of this is in the plane of the three gunaas. On the other hand, most of us will not challenge the long-held beliefs about the world that we are programmed with. Since we do not lose our fascination for the world even after being told several times by our scriptures, Shri Krishna addressed us as “vimoodha”, completely deluded. How then, do those select few people gain the eye of wisdom? We will see in the next shloka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
