My eternal fragment, in this world of souls, becomes the individual soul. It draws itself to the mind and five senses, established in Prakriti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now from the 7th verse onwards, Krishna is entering into another very important topic and that topic is Brahman alone is in the form of the whole universe. Brahman alone is in the form of whole universe, which means there is no universe at all, other than Brahman. Just recall chapter 4.24<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And to convey this idea, Lord Krishna divides the entire world into two parts; and one part is the j\u012bva r\u016bpa; j\u012bvas; so, the conscious experiencers known as j\u012bva\u1e25, and the second part is the inert objects of experience, called jagat. So, universe is nothing but j\u012bva plus jagat. The experiencer plus the experienced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before we proceed, we need to clarify one point here. The word fragment implies that the eternal essence, speaking as Ishvara, can be broken or divided into pieces. Yet, we know that the eternal essence is indivisible. To solve this confusion, we need to remind ourselves of the examples provided in the thirteenth chapter. We can try to divide space using walls, but space is indivisible. Also, we can lose the sun’s reflection when we break a pot filled with water, but nothing happens to the sun. There is no coming or going of space or of the sun. The limitations, the upaadhis such as walls and pots “as though” try to divide but cannot do so in essence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jnyaaneshwari provides yet another example. It describes an ascetic monk who has taken up a contemplative and solitary life in the jungle. One night he dreams that he is a householder with a wife and kids. In order to provide for his family, he has to work hard at his job to make ends meet. His job causes a great deal of stress to him. But when he wakes up from his dream, he remains the same monk, unaffected by the apparent ties of family life. The dream world is yet another upaadhi or limitation caused by ignorance of his real nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And for this purpose, we should know what is the definition of j\u012bva\u1e25. For this purpose, you should remember tatva bodha; which we have seen long before. And Krishna defines j\u012bva as all-pervading brahma caitanyam, all pervading consciousness, which is reflected or manifest in our body mind reflecting medium. In Sanskrit, we call caitanya prathibhimbam, j\u012bva\u1e25. The original all-pervading Consciousness is called Brahman or param\u0101tma. In Tatva Bodha, we used the expression, OC. OC means original consciousness. And that original consciousness when it is expressing through the body, expressing through the mind that reflected or manifest consciousness is called RC; the reflected consciousness. And this body- mind- matter medium, is called the RC, the reflecting medium. So, OC, RC and RM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

our body mind complex is like the mirror. The original consciousness is Brahman, the reflected consciousness is J\u012bva. The body- mind complex is RM; the reflecting medium, it does not have sentiency of its own; body is inert matter, mind is inert matter. Just as the mirror by itself non- luminous and this body- mind- complex has got the reflected consciousness, we call the J\u012bva, and the reflected consciousness is possible because of what? The original consciousness called Brahman. And therefore, we say: Brahman alone is available in the body- mind complex as the j\u012bva. OC-Brahman alone is present in the body- mind- complex as the RC- j\u012bva and as the j\u012bva, Brahman alone illumines or experiences the dark room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The different forms in which God manifests are mainly in two forms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sw\u0101n\u015bh:<\/strong>  All the direct forms of God, who are His integrated parts and not different from Lord Shree Krishna are called sw\u0101n\u015bh. They are also known as His Avatars such as Shree Ram, Narshingh Bhagavan, Varaha, Matsya, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vibhinn\u0101n\u015bh:<\/strong>  All the souls of existence come under this category; these take form from His material energy or j\u012bva \u015bhakti. Shree Krishna had previously explained this in Verse 7.5 \u201cBut beyond the material energy, O mighty- armed Arjun, there is another superior energy of Mine.  It is the embodied souls who are the basis of life in this world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These vibhinn\u0101n\u015bh souls are further divided into three kinds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nitya Siddha:<\/strong>  The liberated souls, who have always resided in the divine realm of God since eternity and participate in His divine Pastimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

S\u0101dhan Siddha:<\/strong>  Those souls from the material world, who practiced s\u0101dhan\u0101 and attained the Supreme Lord.  And now they reside in the divine realm for the rest of eternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nitya Baddha:<\/strong>  The embodied souls who have been trapped in the material realm since eternity.  Due to their material existence, these souls are dis-illusioned by their five senses and the mind. They are struggling in samsara; the cycle of birth and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So then, the jeeva draws a mind and five senses in order to exhaust its desires. However, it still needs a physical body to transact with Prakriti. How does all this happen? We see this in the next shloka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
