If you are unable to steadfastly establish your mind in me, then seek to attain me through the yoga of repeated practice, O Dhananjaya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have study five typies of devotees and Devotion towards God also has five method from top to lower. while dealing with the five steps of bhakthi y\u014dga, Lord Krishna starts with the highest step in the beginning and gradually He is coming down to the lower steps. And the fifth and final step which is the proximate step to liberation was presented as j\u00f1\u0101na y\u014dga s\u0101dan\u0101, consisting of v\u0113d\u0101nta sr\u0325ava\u1e47a, manana nidhidhy\u0101sanam; which is otherwise called here as ak\u1e63ara up\u0101sana. Ak\u1e63ara up\u0101sana is the technical word in the 12th chapter, which means j\u00f1\u0101na y\u014dga, which means nirgu\u1e47a brahma sr\u0325ava\u1e47a manana nidhidhy\u0101sanam; which was dealt with in verses 3, 4 and 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what should those people do, who cannot perfectly fix their mind on God?  Shree Krishna states here that they should endeavor to remember Him with devotion.  As the saying goes, \u201cPractice makes perfect.\u201d  This is called abhy\u0101sa yog, or \u201cunion with God through repeated practice.\u201d  Each time the mind wanders toward other objects and ideas, the devotee must strive to bring it back to God through remembrance of His Names, Forms, Virtues, Pastimes, Abodes, and Associates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj emphasizes this repeated practice in his instructions for s\u0101dhaks: \u201cO dear one, remove the mind from the world and fix it on God.  Practice this constantly, again and again!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A student of music does not become a maestro overnight. While watching a concert, we may admire how easily he can handle complex passages on the piano, but we know that the prowess is a result of years, maybe even decades, of repeated practice. In his book \u201cOutliers\u201d, author Malcolm Gladwell emphasizes the \u201c10,000 hour rule\u201d. The key to success in any field is a matter of practising a task for 10,000 hours. Here, Shri Krishna says that if we are unable to constantly fix our mind in Ishvara, we should set aside some time daily and practice doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note that abhyaasa is not possible without its counterpart vairaagya or dispassion towards the material world. Without reducing our stock of material desires, it is virtually impossible to sit in meditation. Each vaasanaa, each unfulfilled desire has the potential to produce a series of thoughts in our mind. When we sit for meditation, these unfulfilled desires start competing with each other to produce thoughts that distract us from the object of worship. Therefore, Shri Krishna advises us to follow abhyaasa and vairaagya together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, with the practice of dhyaana yoga, we only think of Ishvara for a brief period of time each day. How should we continue our spiritual practice throughout the rest of the day? Or, our stock of desires may not even let us sit in one place. Then how should we worship Ishvara? Shri Krishna addresses this next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
