Meaning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing you form that was never seen before, I am overjoyed and (yet) fearful, my mind is disturbed. Show me that divine form. Be pleased, O Lord of lords, O abode of the universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fear is one of our most primal emotions. At some point or the other in our lives, we have encountered fear of losing our job, losing a loved one, fear of an angry confrontation, stage fright and so on. But we can boil all kinds of fear down to three things. First, the fear of losing something that is \u201cours\u201d. This is the fear of losing our life, our job, our loved ones and so on. Next is the fear of loss of knowledge or being duped. Third is the fear of losing joy and happiness, fear of sorrow in other words. We can sum it up in this manner: we are afraid of losing our existence, knowledge and happiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bhayam is more dominant; it is only because divya cak\u1e63u\u1e25 is an artificial onso,given by Bhagav\u0101n; Divya cak\u1e63u\u1e25 should be claimed by us by our own s\u0101dan\u0101; so by sufficient karma yoga s\u0101dhan\u0101 r\u0101ga dv\u0113\u1e63\u0101s; ahamk\u0101ra mamak\u0101r\u0101s comes down; that mind has got naturally developed divya cak\u1e63u; And when we have got naturally developed divya cak\u1e63u\u1e25; Vi\u015bva r\u016bpa will not be frightening; but in the case of Arjuna; it is artificially given; and therefore Arjuna is not able to totally enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, if we recall the teaching of the Gita so far, especially from the second chapter, we know that our true nature is the aatmaa, the eternal essence which is infinite existence, knowledge, and happiness. So then, the cause of fear is the ego, the delusion that we are not the eternal essence. There is no scope for fear when we know our true nature as the infinite eternal essence. But if we assume that \u201cI am the body\u201d, then all the problems and fears of the body such as disease, old age, death etc become our problems. The fear of death, which is actually the fear of losing the existence of the body, becomes our fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So then, why did Arjuna fear Shri Krishna\u2019s cosmic form? For a moment, Arjuna\u2019s ego had vanished when he considered himself part and parcel of the cosmic form. When his ego came back, it brought with it all the incorrect associations with the body, mind and so on. Arjuna then saw the cosmic form as something outside of himself, something that could destroy him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two kinds of bhakti \u2014 ai<\/strong>\u015b<\/strong>hwarya bhakti and m<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>dhurya bhakti.<\/strong> Ai\u015bhwarya bhakti is that where the devotee is motivated to engage in devotion by contemplating upon the almighty aspect of God. The dominant sentiment in ai\u015bhwarya bhakti is of awe and reverence. In such devotion, the feeling of remoteness from God and the need for maintaining propriety of conduct is always perceived. Examples of ai\u015bhwarya bhakti are the residents of Dwaraka and the residents of Ayodhya, who worshipped Shree Krishna and Lord Ram respectively as their kings. Ordinary citizens are highly respectful and obedient toward their king, although they never feel intimate with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>dhurya bhakti<\/strong> is that where the devotee feels an intimate personal relationship with God. The dominant sentiment in such devotion is \u201cShree Krishna is mine and I am his.\u201d Examples of m\u0101dhurya bhakti are the cowherd boys of Vrindavan who loved Krishna as their friend, Yashoda and Nand baba, who loved Krishna as their child, and the gop\u012bs who loved him as their beloved. M\u0101dhurya bhakti is infinitely sweeter than ai\u015bhwarya bhakti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hence, Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj states: sabai sarasa rasa dw<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>rik<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>, mathur<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong> aru braja m<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>hi<\/strong>\u00f1<\/strong>; madhura, madhuratara, madhuratama, rasa brajarasa sama n<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>hi<\/strong>\u00f1<\/strong> (Bhakti <\/strong>\u015a<\/strong>hatak verse 70)[v22] <\/strong>\u201c<\/strong>The divine bliss of God is immensely sweet in all his forms. Yet, there is a gradation in it<\/strong>\u2014<\/strong>the bliss of his Dwaraka pastimes is sweet, the bliss of his Mathura pastimes is sweeter, and the bliss of his Braj pastimes is the sweetest.<\/strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In M\u0101dhurya bhakti, forgetting the almightiness of God, devotees establish four kinds of relationships with Shree Krishna:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>sya bh<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>v<\/strong>\u2014Shree Krishna is our Master, and I am his servant. The devotion of Shree Krishna\u2019s personal servants, such as Raktak, Patrak, etc. was in d\u0101sya bh\u0101v. The sentiment that God is our Father or Mother is a variation of d\u0101sya bh\u0101v and is included in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sakhya bh<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>v<\/strong>\u2014Shree Krishna is our Friend, and I am his intimate companion. The devotion of the cowherd boys of Vrindavan, such as Shreedama, Madhumangal, Dhansukh, Mansukh, etc. was in sakhya bh\u0101v.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

V<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>tsalya bh<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>v<\/strong>\u2014Shree Krishna is our Child, and I am his parent. The devotion of Yashoda and Nand baba was in v\u0101tsalya bh\u0101v.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>dhurya bh<\/strong>\u0101<\/strong>v<\/strong>\u2014<\/strong>Shree Krishna is our Beloved and I am his lover. The devotion of the gop\u012bs of Vrindavan was in m\u0101dhurya bh\u0101v.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arjun is a sakhya bh\u0101v devotee and relishes a fraternal relationship with the Lord. On seeing the universal form of God, Arjun experienced tremendous awe and reverence, and yet he longed for the sweetness of sakhya bh\u0101v that he was used to savoring. Hence, he prays to Shree Krishna to hide the almighty form that he is now seeing and again show his human form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
