Meaning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing your grand form with several mouths and eyes, O mighty armed, with several arms, thighs, feet and bellies, with fearful fangs, all beings are disturbed, and (so too am) I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blessed by Lord Krishna with divya cak\u1e63u\u1e25, that means an appropriate mind by which a person can appreciate the whole universe as the body of the Lord; Arjuna is having Vi\u015bva r\u016bpa dar\u015banam of the Lord. And Arjuna goes through three phases and in each phase, Arjuna response is different; and of these three phases, the first stage is one of wonder; because anything you appreciate in totality, in mass scale, it produces wonderment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arjuna\u2019s amazement turned into fear as he witnessed the transformation of Ishvara\u2019s cosmic form. The \u201csoumya roopa\u201d or the pleasant form morphed into into the \u201cugra roopa\u201d, the fear-inducing form. Shri Krishna\u2019s kind, shining face was no more visible. It now was the face of a monster, with long sharp teeth that were \u201ckaarala\u201d, ready to take a bite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hence, considering several mouths etc. as kaal “time” which has three phases birth, live and death. In name of God Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Now seeing the death is fearful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we see someone who has power but is benevolent and kind, we feel at peace. But when someone with power is clearly intent on causing destruction, we are afraid. When a general of a country army is disciplined and respects civilian authority, people are happy, otherwise he becomes a dictator and scares people. So therefore, seeing this terrible form of Ishvara, Arjuna saw that all beings in all of the worlds were cowering in fear of this form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He describes the Vishva roopa as numerous hands, legs, faces, and stomach of God are everywhere. The \u015ahwet\u0101\u015bhvatar Upani\u1e63had states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is from the fear of God that the fire burns and the sun shines. It is out of fear of him that the wind blows, and Indra causes the rain to fall. Even Yamraj, the god of death, trembles before him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why did Ishvara show this form to Arjuna? Didn\u2019t Shri Krishna want everyone to remember his pleasant form only? There is a reason to this. Earlier, we learned about the tendency of our mind to demarcate certain aspect of the world as \u201cgood\u201d or \u201cbad\u201d. But if we use the cosmic form as a means to meditate upon Ishvara, we need think like Ishvara. Ishvara comprises the entire creation where everything is necessary, and everything has its place. We cannot demarcate anything good or bad. Only by discarding our prior conceptions of good and bad can we truly understand this terrible form of Ishvara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
