Among the demons I am Prahalaad and among the systems of counting I am time. Among animals I am the lion and among the birds I am Vainateya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story of Prahalaad is found in the Srimad Bhaagavatam. Son of the demon-king Hiranyakashipu, he was an ardent devotee of Lord Naaraayana. So firm was his devotion that Lord Naaraayana appeared in the form of the half lion half man Narasimha to save Prahalaad from the atrocities committed by his father. Praising the strength of devotion, Shri Krishna says that Ishvara is found in Prahalaad among demons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember the names of all the great bhakth\u0101s; and the top most one is Prahl\u0101da; By birth he is asura j\u0101thi; by character he is satva gu\u1e47a. From this we also another important thing; j\u0101thi does not make a person great, it is the gu\u1e47a that makes a person great; And therefore we can never look down a person based on jaathi, the caste system became notorious because we started looking down upon people purely based on janma; and those people see the so-called brahmanas; who are born from br\u0101hma\u1e47\u0101s; and who are given to lot of vices and I respect a br\u0101hma\u1e47\u0101s, just because he is born a br\u0101hma\u1e47\u0101s, even though he does not have any character, there is something irrational in it; And therefore, jati does not make a person great, but character; and what is the example, Prahl\u0101da was born asura; R\u0101va\u1e47a was a br\u0101hma\u1e47\u0101; Also, it drives home the message that we can change our destiny no matter what kind of family we are born into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, Shri Krishna takes up the systems of counting. Even today there are various forms of such systems including the metric system, the imperial system and so on. The most accurate system, however, is that of time. Everything and everyone in the universe is under the influence of time and cannot escape its impact. So among the counting systems, Ishvara\u2019s foremost expression is that of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those of us who have seen a lion up close, it is no surprise that Shri Krishna finds the lion as prominent among the animals. The king of the jungle is magnificent even if found in a cage. His roar subdues animals that are much larger than he is. The majestic lion is the king of the jungle, and amongst the animals the power of the Lord indeed reveals itself in the lion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the birds, it is Vainateya, also known as Garuda the eagle, who is Ishvara\u2019s finest expression. Garuda was the son of sage Kashyapa and Vinata. He is Lord Vishnu\u2019s mount, emanating the Vedas from his wings as he flies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So whenever we see someone succeeding despite their weaknesses, when we observe the passage of time, whenever we see animals or birds, we should remember that everything is Ishvara only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
