Meaning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having enjoyed the (joys of) mighty heaven, they, with their merits exhausted, return to the mortal world. In this manner, those with selfish desires, who take refuge in the three- fold system, arrive and depart (repeatedly).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shri Krishna continues the description of desire- oriented devotees (sakaam bhaktas) who worship Ishvara with a view to gain earthly and heavenly rewards and conforts. Shri Krishna says that their efforts will bear fruit on earth as well as in heaven. However, he says that their stay in heaven is temporary. After their stay ends, they once again come back to earth and get caught up in the endless cycle of birth and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as a football gets kicked all over the field, Maya is kicking the soul around in forgetfulness of God.  Sometimes it goes to the lower abodes, while sometimes to the higher abodes.  Amongst these multitudes of forms it receives, across the lower and higher abodes, only the human form offers the facility for God- realization.  Hence, the scriptures state that even the celestial gods pray to be given birth as a human being, so that they may rectify their previous mistake of going to heaven and strive toward God- realization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an example, consider the plight of those people who work hard, earn a good living but have trouble managing their spending. As soon as they get their salary, they instantly spend most of it on the first of the month, and barely manage to pay their bills for the remainder of the month. They somehow forget that fact that money, like anything else in this world, is finite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One has to come to bh\u016bl\u014dka at regular intervals. Why, because all earnings you can do here only; in the other 13 l\u014dkahs, whether it is 6 upper lokas, or 7 lower l\u014dkas, all the 13 lokas are only for exhaustion of your earnings; in the lower lokas you exhaust your p\u0101pam; in higher l\u014dkas, you exhaust your pu\u1e47yam; and again if the bank balance has to be built up, you have to come to bh\u016bl\u014dka. Therefore gaman- \u0101gamanam. This is called autobiography of a sams\u0101ri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shri Krishna says that such people follow the \u201cthree-fold system\u201d. This refers to Vedic knowledge comprising the three modes or gunaas. Since the gunaas themselves are finite and transient, the results attained by the followers of these gunaas will also be finite and transient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So therefore, although the desire-oriented devotee is better than someone who has no room for devotion, he is still trapped in a pursuit of comfort in pleasure in this world as well as in other worlds. Unlike such a devotee, what we should truly desire is liberation or moksha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
