Meaning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am the father, mother, support and grandfather of this universe. I am the knowable, the purifier, the syllable Om, and the Rig, Saama and Yajur also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shri Krishna further elaborates on Ishvara\u2019s infinite all- pervading nature by asserting that he is the father, mother and grandfather of this universe. A father\u2019s nature is to protect the child and to push it to grow. A mother embodies the quality of nurture and impartiality, she will care for even the most misbehaved child. A grandfather is extremely attached to his grandchild and takes great pleasure in demonstrating affection towards the child, whereas the father may sometimes not show affection openly. Shri Krishna says that Ishvara treats every being in the universe like a caring family would.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All these verses continue with the same topic i. e. vi\u015bvar\u016bpa \u012a\u015bvara\u1e25. God is everything. So He says I am mother; because the Lord is ardhan\u0101re\u015bavara; father also two-in-one; in that age itself; I am both father and mother, which means I am the intelligent cause behind the creation and I am the very material cause of the creation. I am the grandfather also; which means I do not have a father who has created Me, I am the ultimate father; I am fatherless father; which means I was never born; I am the causeless cause of the creation. It is said that Lord Shiva, when asked for his great grandfather\u2019s name, replied \u201cShiva\u201d. There is no further cause of this universe other than Ishvara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another pointer to Ishvara is \u201cdhaata\u201d or sustainer. As we have seen earlier, it is Ishvara in his infinite nature that holds the universe together in a state of harmony, where everything is in its place. I am dhata means the dispenser, distributor of everything to the j\u012bv\u0101s; according to their karma phalam. Anything that is to be given to a j\u012bv\u0101, I decide. What type of body you should get, male or female; animal or human, healthy or sick body; I decide the body that you should have; and what is the longevity and during the life, what all you should get? every one of you; not only human beings; even every animal and insect what they should get, I alone determine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ishvara is also the three Vedas which are ultimate source of knowledge in the universe, the only knowledge that needs to be known. Their essence is captured in the syllable \u201cOm\u201d, which is considered the utmost purifier.  “I am the o\u1e45k\u0101ra\u1e25, the essence of all the v\u0113d\u0101s, the crux of all the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

v\u0113d\u0101s.”   In other words, once we see Ishvara in everything, everything becomes pure. I have explained the three v\u0113d\u0101s before; rig v\u0113d\u0101 is a v\u0113d\u0101 in which r\u0325ik mantras are there; and r\u0325ik mantra is a mantra which is a metrical composition; which is in the form of poetry; poetic composition is r\u0325ik mantra; whereas yajur v\u0113d\u0101 is a v\u0113d\u0101 consisting of yajur mantra; and yajur mantra is a mantra in prose form, So rik is padya r\u016bpam; yajur is gadya r\u016bpam; and then s\u0101ma means music; therefore sama v\u0113d\u0101 is a v\u0113d\u0101 in which s\u0101ma mantras are there; which means there are mantras, which is set of music; they never say s\u0101ma p\u0101r\u0101ya\u1e47am; they say sama g\u0101nam; yujur g\u0101nam, r\u0325ik g\u0101nnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
