Meaning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All beings attain my Prakriti when an age ends, O Kaunteya. I project them again when (another) age begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, Shri Krishna compared wind in space to the multitude of beings in Ishvara. Here, he asserts that all those beings go to Ishvara\u2019s Prakriti at the end of a \u201ckalpa\u201d or age. They then come back into existence when the kalpa starts all over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last chapter, Shri Krishna had explained the process of creation and dissolution. He spoke about the day and night of Lord Brahma. Here, he adds more detail by revealing the orchestrator of creation and dissolution. It is Prakriti. In an earlier context, this word was translated as nature. In this context, we will keep the original word since the meaning is a little different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So here Krishna says, before creation of this universe, the universe was already existent in me, in unmanifest form or potential form; because nothing can be newly created. According to the law of conservation of matter and energy; nothing can be newly created; even an ounce of matter cannot be created by anyone including God. Even though God is omnipotent; even an ounce of matter cannot be created. Therefore God says, I do not create a world at all; the world was already existent in Me; but only difference is what; not in this unfolded manner. The world was existent in seed form; potential form; unmanifest form, just as a huge tree, existing within a seed; or as a baby exists in the womb of the mother. So when a look up at a grown up child; and the mother says. This is my son; that fellow is one foot above the mother. And then you wonder; how can such a big person be in the stomach of the mother; even though he is so big now; previously he was a tiny fetus, who was existing in unmanifest form. So in the DNA, they say information contained in the smallest DNA is so much, that 300 books of information can be extracted out of it; because the child’s or the man’s all the features must be there encoded. If your hair has to turn grey at the 43rd year, remember it is already coded in your DNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, you can understand by Dream you see. What is dream? All the dream that you have are nothing but the impressions that you will have gathered from your observation and experience; You can never dream what you have not experienced; you can have a peculiar permutation combination. So the man- body and buffalo- head; the combination will be mind and brain might do; but you have experienced a buffalo; you have experienced a man; and if at all you say no no no; I saw something which I have never experienced; then I say you have forgotten it. And still if you claim; no no no; I have never experienced; I am damn sure; I say that you have experienced in your previous janma; because mind continues from previous janma; therefore today’s dream is already in the waker, in what form?; in potential form. Today’s dream of yours is already in your mind in potential form; already we VCR has worked; VCR means video cassette recorder. You have recorded in your mental tape, and the VCR operation will stop, the moment you go to bed. And VCR operation will be replaced by VCP. And what will be played; whatever has been recorded. Therefore, what I want to say is your dream is potentially there in you, the waker. Similarly, the dream like world is in Brahman; in unmanifest form; which is called m\u0101ya or prakr\u0325ti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prakriti is a system that tracks the karmas or actions of each and every being in the universe. When every being\u2019s karma is exhausted, Shri Krishna, through the medium of Prakriti, begins the process of dissolution, just like we go to sleep when we exhaust all our actions for the day. When the time is right for the next set of actions to begin manifesting, Prakriti \u201cwakes\u201d up everyone and begins the process of creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, we notice that Shri Krishna does not use the word \u201ccreate\u201d here. Instead, he uses the word \u201cproject\u201d. Prakriti is similar to a movie projector in that it does not create anything new, but projects names and forms on the screen, just like waves and foam in the ocean. As we saw earlier, creation and dissolution is a matter of perspective. A child only sees waves and foam. The adult, seeing the very same waves and foam, knows that it is ultimately water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, creation and dissolution on a cosmic scale is \u201creal\u201d only if we get stuck at the level of names and forms. The jnyaani or the wise seeker sees the names and forms come and go, but knows that everything, ultimately, is only Ishvara. The difference between the jnyaani and everyone else is that the wise seeker\u2019s perspective that comes from having the knowledge of Ishvara. This knowledge is paramount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So then, what is the relationship between Ishvara, Prakriti and us? This is explained in the next shloka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
