Shree Bhagavan said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brahman is the imperishable supreme. Adhyaatma is individual nature. Karma is defined as the force that produces the existence of beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this shloka, three questions are answered out of seven questions asked by Arjuna. Shri Krishna says that brahman is the imperishable, supreme eternal essence that we encountered in the second chapter. Therefore, what is Brahman, the eternal consciousness is Brahman, and the very word Brahma means brihat tamatva Brahma. It is derived from the root brih, to mean big and Brahma means that which is superlatively big. That which is superlatively limitless entity; anantha tatvam is called Brahman. The Vedas address God by several names; Brahman is one of them. In this verse, Shree Krishna says to Arjun that the Supreme Entity is called the Brahman. Time, space, the chain of cause and effect, etc., are all characteristics of the material realm. However, the Brahman is beyond these, as He is transcendental to the material plane. He is described as aksharam or indestructible because He is unaffected by the changes in the universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Brihadaranyak Upanishad 3.8.8 states, \u201cLearned people speak of Brahman as akshar (indestructible).  It is also designated as Param (Supreme) because It possesses qualities beyond those possessed by maya and the souls.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat is adhyaatma\u201d is answered next. The very all-pervading consciousness must be existing within the individual body also. If the consciousness is all- pervading, it must be within the body also. And when the consciousness is seen within the body, that is called adhi \u0101tmam, or ady\u0101tmam. The word atma here means \u015bar\u012bram; adhi \u0101tmam means obtaining within the body. So thus, consciousness looked from the angle of sama\u1e63ti or total; it is called Brahma. When the very same consciousness is looked from the standpoint of the individual body, it is called adhy\u0101tmam. So the word, svabh\u0101va\u1e25 means the inner essence, the consciousness within. Brahman is param\u0101tma; adhy\u0101tmam is j\u012bvatma; Brahman is the consciousness from macro angle; adhy\u0101tmam is the consciousness from the micro angle; consciousness is the same; two different words are used; because of two different terms of reference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shri Krishna says that it is svabhaava, or the set of qualities of an individual. Each person in this world has a unique combination of attributes, a unique permutation of sattva, rajas and tamas that is their own. When the universal eternal essence is conditioned or covered by an individual\u2019s attributes, it is known as adhyaatma or aatma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, consciousness is called param\u0101tma, consciousness is called j\u012bvatma; depending. upon macro and micro point of reference. So, with this second question is answered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The word adhyatma has two meanings in Sanskrit. One is the science of the soul, and the second is the path to spirituality. However, here Shree Krishna has used it for one\u2019s own self that includes the body, mind, and intellect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, Shri Krishna answers the question \u201cWhat is karma\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the deliberate activities of human beings which are responsible for the future creation is called karma, because according to our scriptures, creation is not an accident; creation is a clean incident caused by previous factors or action. For if I am born here with a physical body, it is not an accident, it is a result of what? my own past karma. Similarly, you are born because of your karma; the individual birth is because of individual karma; the birth of humanity is because of the karma of the humanity. He says that it is the force that brings about the creation of every entity in this universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karmas are fruitive activities performed by a person. It is these karmas that forge every individual\u2019s distinct condition of existence in various lifetimes. They keep the soul circling in samsara or the cycle of material existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

when you take the creation as a whole; we say the present creation is the result of the past creation. And the past creation is the result of its past creation; and the future creation will be result of the present creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is what we are seeing in Brahma s\u016btra now. Bhagav\u0101n is not responsible for the creation. The type of creation and the necessity of creation is because I have asked for it, by my good\/bad\/mixed action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, everything is karma ordered and therefore karma is defined as sri\u1e63ti k\u0101ra\u1e47am. That is here presented as bh\u016bta bh\u0101va udbhavakara\u1e25 and visarga\u1e25 means action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At one level, it is the mechanism in the projector that brings to life the story that lies hidden in the film strip. At another level, it is the animator\u2019s act of drawing the characters in the movie. Essentially, it is the force that converts an unmanifested object into a manifested object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, we can say that Ishvara set into motion this entire universe with the one original action that has resulted into the millions and millions of actions that occur in the universe every second. It was the seed of all future actions in the universe. But our ego, our false sense of individuality, comes under the delusion that it is the doer of all actions. Each such individualistic action causes us to further identify with our body and go further from liberation. Ultimately, like the movie that eventually ends in two hours, everything that is unmanifested will be manifested and will be dissolved, only to start all over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
