Meaning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those, the wise one who is constantly connected with single-pointed devotion is special, for I am dear to him, and he is dear to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, Shri Krishna enumerated the four types of devotees that seek Ishvara\u2019s refuge. Now, Shri Krishna says that the wise devotee is special among the four types of devotees. The wise devotee is always striving to be connected with him. Shri Krishna gives the reason for the special nature of this devotee in this and the next shloka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wise devotees develop selfless, exclusive, and incessant devotion toward GOD. Now that they have the knowledge that the happiness of the world is temporary and God is the source of eternal bliss, they neither crave for favorable circumstances nor lament over reversals in the world. They become situated in selfless devotion with complete self- surrender and for their Divine Beloved, they are willing to offer themselves as an offering in the fire of divine love. Shree Krishna declares that such devotees are dearest Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 A wise devotee has also gone through a lot of ups and downs in life like anyone else. But he has taken the time to accurately analyze his situation. He has come to the conclusion that no matter what he gains – a new job, new house, investments and so on – he is still left with a sense of incompleteness. Unlike the other three types of devotees that seek something finite, he wants to go beyond finite things. In other words, he is seeking infinitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having come to this conclusion, his search for infinitude has culminated in Ishvara. He intuitively knows that it is Ishvara that is going to give him infinitude. He then takes to the path of spirituality from the very early stages: karmayoga for purification of the mind, followed by meditation for single pointedness of mind, hoping eventually to culminate in attainment of the infinite Ishvara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People coming to j\u00f1\u0101nam means meditation; another misconception; coming to j\u00f1\u0101nam does not mean meditation; in meditation you can reproduce only what you already know; can go on repeating that you already know, how can you know something new through meditation; and therefore, what is j\u00f1\u0101na y\u014dga, Krishna has already said in the fourth chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u00f1\u0101na y\u014dga means systematic study of scriptures under the guidance of a competent \u0101c\u0101rya.  what types of scriptures? Those scriptures which deal with the lower as well as higher nature of God. Not only the sagu\u1e47a \u012a\u015bvara svar\u016bpam; we should study that scripture which deals with the nirgu\u1e47a svar\u016bpam also. So many people talk about Bh\u0101gavatham, in fact Bh\u0101gavatham is a wonderful scripture which deals with both Sagu\u1e47a Krishna and Nirgu\u1e47a Krishna but they filter the Nirgu\u1e47a portion. They will talk about, the story part is beautifully described and when there is the higher nature; quietly they skip. We have to study both the sagu\u1e47a and nirgu\u1e47a apar\u0101 and par\u0101 and therefore coming to j\u00f1\u0101nam means systematic study of scriptures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is another reason for the special nature of the wise devotee, which we shall see next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
