Meaning:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One who is ignorant, devoid of faith and who doubts constantly is destroyed. Neither in this world, nor in other worlds is peace attained by one who constantly doubts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having pointed out the qualifications needed in a seeker to gain knowledge of self-realization, Shri Krishna explains the obstacles, or “disqualifications”, that prevent us from accessing that knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No.1 ignorance; regarding anything; ignorance with regard to the world; so I should be informed if I want to live a normal life and the second thing is a\u015braddh\u0101, lack of faith is the second; in the scriptures a\u015braddha; so lack of knowledge is one negative trait; lack of faith in scriptures is the second negative trait. The third one is sam\u015baya\u1e25; doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunate are those who have had the chance to even come across something called spiritual knowledge, scriptures, Gita and so on. But unless one comes across a taste of the scriptures, one spends their entire life totally ignorant of the eternal reality behind the changing world. So it is this ignorance that becomes the obstacle towards the knowledge of self-realization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondly, Shri Krishna says that one who lacks faith will never fully gain this knowledge. As mentioned earlier, we have to possess faith in scriptures, in our teacher, in ourselves and in the truth of the eternal essence until we gain the knowledge of self-realization. Without faith, we will not last in the long and arduous journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now let us think of the 2nd type of person; he does not believe in scriptures; so karma, pu\u1e47yam, papam, svargam, narakam, he says is rubbish; I do not believe in all these; but I believe in the pleasures of this world and I want to be well-informed and therefore he has got what; worldly knowledge, he is jna\u1e25, but he does not have sr\u0101ddha; then what will happen to him; because he does not have \u015braddha; para loka\u1e25 sukham he will not get; because he is well informed, he will get what iha loka\u1e25 sukham. First type of person is ignorant and therefore iha loka\u1e25 sukham is not there; but para loka\u1e25 sukham is there because of \u015braddh\u0101. For a second type of person, because of lack of \u015braddha, para loka\u1e25 sukham is not there; but iha loka\u1e25 sukham is there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the person who doubts everything will also find it difficult to gain knowledge. Now, to be sure, skepticism and inquiry is absolutely important. In fact, it is encouraged by spiritual teachers. But constant doubting without taking efforts to resolve those doubts will become a huge roadblock in gaining spiritual knowledge. A man who doubts this loka\u1e25 itself; how will he not doubt the scriptures, pu\u1e47yam, p\u0101pam, etc. therefore na ayam loka\u1e25, na para\u1e25 loka\u1e25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bhakti Ras\u0101m\u1e5bit Sindhu classifies s\u0101dhaks into three classes based on the degree of faith and knowledge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highest s\u0101dhak (spiritual aspirant) is one who possesses knowledge of the scriptures and is also endowed with firm faith. The medium class s\u0101dhak is one who does not have knowledge of the scriptures, but is endowed with faith toward God and Guru. The lowest class s\u0101dhak is one, who neither has scriptural knowledge nor is endowed with faith.\u201d For the third category, Shree Krishna says that such persons cannot attain peace either in this life or hereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shri Krishna also says that constant doubting is not just an obstacle on the spiritual path. It also prevents us from living peacefully in the material world. Each time we board a train or a plane, we implicitly have faith that the driver will take us to our destination safely. If we constantly doubt the capability of the driver, we will never be able to go about our daily business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
