॥ श्रीमद्‍भगवद्‍गीता ॥ 3.24॥

यदि उत्सीदेयुरिमे लोका न कुर्यां कर्म चेदहम्‌ ।

संकरस्य च कर्ता स्यामुपहन्यामिमाः प्रजाः॥

“utsīdeyur ime lokā,

na kuryāḿ karma ced aham..।

sańkarasya ca kartā syām,

upahanyām imāḥ prajāḥ”..।।

भावार्थ : 

इसलिए यदि मैं कर्तव्य समझ कर कर्म न करूँ तो ये सभी लोक भ्रष्ट हो जायेंगे तब मैं अवांछित-सृष्टि की उत्पत्ति का कारण हो जाऊँगा और इस प्रकार समस्त प्राणीयों को नष्ट करने वाला बन जाऊँगा ॥ २४॥

Meaning:

These people would be ruined if I stopped performing action. I would become the creator of confusion and destroy these beings.

Explanation:

Shri Krishna further elaborates on the argument put forth in the last shloka. As someone who is has realized the eternal essence, he does not have any obligations towards the world. But even then, he continues to act towards the welfare of society. Here, he says that if he stopped acting, all people who look up to him would be ruined and destroyed.

In his divine pastimes on the Earth, Shree Krishna was playing the role of a king and a great leader. He appeared in the material world as the son of King Vasudeva from the Vrishni dynasty, the foremost of the righteous.

When Shree Krishna appeared on the Earth, seemingly as a human being, he conducted himself in all ways and manners, appropriate for his position in society, as a member of the royal warrior class. If he had acted otherwise, other human beings would begin to imitate him, thinking that they must copy the conduct of the worthy son of the righteous King Vasudev. Had Shree Krishna failed to perform Vedic duties, human beings following his example would be led away from the discipline of karm, into a state of chaos. This would have been a very serious offence and Lord Krishna would be considered at fault. Thus, he explains to Arjun that if he did not fulfill his occupational duties, it would cause pandemonium in society.

Similarly, Arjun was world-famous for being undefeated in battle, and was the brother of the virtuous King Yudhisthir. If Arjun refused to fulfill his duty to protect dharma, then many other worthy and noble warriors could follow his example and also renounce their prescribed duty of protecting righteousness. This would bring destruction to the world balance and the rout of innocent and virtuous people. Thus, for the benefit of the entire human race and the welfare of the world, Shree Krishna coaxed Arjun not to neglect performing his prescribed Vedic activities.

We saw the example of a great social activist like Baba Amte, who although having performed such selfless service, continued to act till his last day. Society would take a huge hit if someone like him abruptly stopped working.

In addition, there is a subtler meaning here. Shri Krishna’s statements have a cosmic significance. So therefore, the word “I” also refers to every law or principle that works every second of our lives and never ever takes a vacation.

For instance, we all know what happens to a society when there is a breakdown of law and order. There will be chaos, confusion and destruction all around. But civil and criminal laws are just man-made laws. Consider what would happen if the law of gravity, a universal law, stopped working. People, buildings, and every free standing object on this earth would start flying out into space to its eventual destruction. And finally, what if our breathing or pumping of the heart stopped working?

If you violate the rules of health; with regard to eating, or with regard to the water you drink or any other health rule also, Bhagavān has given enough immunity and strength; initially some indications will be given; but only after year’s of violation, the consequences will be felt; Even for the violation of ecological harmony, we are not punished immediately

Therefore what Krishna says is consequences will not be felt immediately; but gradually we are destroying the creation and first person who violated the dharma is ultimately responsible for that.

According to Varna aashram, the work of every human is decided. It was based on the work choosen by an individual, but slowly it is misfortunate converted into jati or birth based.

Therefore the sastra says, let it be jati based or guṇa based but the śastra warning is. Now in the jāti based also, the advantage is that all professions are protected; because parampara weaving person, this particular art, particular music, everything is protected, that family takes care of that profession; but what śastra warn; let the profession be not choosed based on money; once money becomes criterion, there will be lot of problems there would be certain profession,

Therefore the message to Arjuna is clear. Any task, no matter how insignificant or unpleasant, should be performed selflessly and with dexterity, if it is in the service of the higher good.

।। हिंदी समीक्षा ।।

भगवान श्री कृष्ण ब्रह्म का मानववतार में प्रकट है, इसलिए वे कहते है कि ईश्वर के रूप में यदि मैं शासन न करूँ तो विश्व में उन्नति नहीं होगी और नियमबद्ध सृष्टि भी नष्ट हो जायेगी। विश्व कोई क्रमहीन रचना नहीं वरन् नियमबद्ध सृष्टि है। प्रकृति के नियम पालन में कहीं भी मर्यादा का उल्लंघन होता नहीं दिखाई देता। प्राकृतिक घटनायें ग्रहों की गति ऋतुओं का लयबद्ध नृत्य और सृष्टि का संगीत ये सब किसी महान् नियम के अनुसार चलते रहते हैं इसी को कहते हैं प्रकृति और उसके नियामक ईश्वर की प्रबल शक्ति। इस ईश्वररूप में भगवान् के निष्क्रिय हो जाने पर ये लोक नष्ट हो जायेंगे।

श्रीकृष्ण का यह कथन तर्क के विपरीत नहीं है जो केवल अन्धविश्वासी लोगों को ही स्वीकार होगा। विज्ञान की दृष्टि से विचार करने वाले लोग भी इस को अस्वीकार नहीं कर सकते।भगवान् केवल बाह्य जगत् के पदार्थों का संचालन करने वाले नियमों के ही नियामक नहीं बल्कि भावना एवं विचार के आन्तरिक जगत् के भी नियन्ता हैं। हिन्दू ऋषिमुनियों ने मानव समाज का चार वर्णों में जो वर्गीकरण किया उसका आधार मनुष्य का मानसिक स्वभाव एवं बौद्धिक क्षमता थी। यदि आन्तरिक जगत् में कोई नियम सुचारु रूप से काम न करें तो मनुष्य के व्यवहार और चरित्र में विचित्रता और अस्थिरता उत्पन्न होगी जिससे भ्रांति की वृद्धि होगी। वर्तमान में प्रचलित वर्णसंकर का अर्थ शास्त्र के विपरीत है जिसके कारण आज का शिक्षित व्यक्ति गीता की आलोचना करते हुये कह सकता है कि इसमें उच्च वर्ण की वर्चस्वता को ही भगवान की स्वीकृत है। 

मनुष्य एवम हर जीव को प्रकृति नियमित करती है जो जन्म, विकास औऱ मृत्यु पर आधारित है। ईश्वर के नियम के अनुसार केवल संस्कार एवम कर्मफल ही आप के पुनः जन्म का कारण बनते है। मनुष्य अपने बुद्धि एवम बल पर अपने नियम और कानून बनाता है किंतु कोई भी कानून ईश्वर के कानून जैसा स्थायी नही है। हम अपने इतिहास में कितनी सभ्यता, नियम और मनुष्य निर्मित सभ्यताओं को पढ़ते है, हर व्यक्ति खाली हाथ आता है और खाली हाथ ही जाता है। उस को ईश्वर के बनाये जन्म मरण से मुक्त होना ही है। अतः जो जीव स्वयं की ईश्वर के सृष्टि यज्ञ चक्र के नियम का पालन करता हुआ, निष्काम भाव से कार्य करेगा वो ही मुक्ति की ओर उतनी ही तेज गति से बढ़ेगा।

संसार मे बाबा आमटे, तूकड़ो जी, तुलसीदास, नानक, शिवा जी, गुरु गोविंद सिंह, महाराणा प्रताप, एडिसन, भामाशाह जैसे महान अनेक संत, योद्धा,दानवीर एवम अविष्कारक हुए जिन्होंने निष्काम भाव से कार्य किया। ईश्वर कहते है यदि मेरे नियम से कार्य नहीं हो, यह सृष्टि लोभ, लालसा, अहम एवम मोह जैसे दुर्गुण ले कर इन  वर्ण संकर जाति से भर जाएगी। यह महाभारत का युद्ध धर्म युद्ध भी इसलिये था कि इस प्रकार की धाराओं में रहने वालों को ईश्वर एक मानव जन्म ने कर्तव्य पालन करते हुए अर्जुन द्वारा कार्य कर रहे है। कुछ समय पूर्व ISIS ने भी मतान्ध हो कर हत्याए करना शुरू किया जिस को सभी अन्य देशों ने रोका, जब की यह कार्य भी ईश्वर के नाम पर था किंतु उस के सर्वजन सुखाये के नियम का गलत अर्थ ले कर चलने वालों के विरुद्ध था। अतः कोई भी धर्म, मान्यता, रीति रिवाज सृष्टि यज्ञ चक्र के परोपकार के नियम के विरूद्ध होगा वो स्थायी नही होगा।

महान पुरुषो या आत्मा के कार्य ईश्वरीय प्रेरणा से होते है, ईश्वर की सतत समाज के नियम सही चलते रहे, किसी को चुन कर कार्य करता है। इसलिए आम व्यक्ति इन महान आत्माओं को उन के कार्यों के कारण ईश्वर समान उन्हे पूजता है।

प्रकृति अपना कार्य करती है जिस  में यदि नदिया सुरलय ताल में बहती है और खेत लहराते है, पक्षी अपना संगीत भी सुनाते है तो दूसरी और यही प्रकृति संहारक रूप में महामारी, बाढ़, भूकम्प आदि से अपने को संतुलित भी करती है। इस प्रकृति में परमात्मा सृष्टि यज्ञ चक्र के नियम का पालन करने एवम करवाने महापुरुषों द्वारा संदेश भी देता है किंतु जब जीव में तामसी वृति इतनी अधिक बढ़ जाती है कि उसे यह संदेश सुनाई भी नही देता या वह अर्थ का अनर्थ करने लगता है तो प्रकृति अपने को समेटना शुरू कर देती है। एक जीव के रूप में हम अपने विचार, अस्तित्व एवम सत्य-असत्य को परिभाषित कर भी दे किन्तु जो परब्रह्म को जानता है वह प्रत्येक जीव को उस के कर्मो के हिसाब से फल देने वाली माया रूपी प्रकृति के किसी भी कार्य मे हस्तक्षेप नही करता। क्योंकि यदि वह हस्तक्षेप करने लगे तो यह सृष्टि यज्ञ चक्र नष्ट होने लगेगा। वह इस का पालन करता है। हम जब तक अहम एवम प्रकृति से बंधे है तब तक मोह, आसक्ति एवम कामना में उस के संदेशों को पढ़ नही सकते। यद्यपि सांख्य योगी निवृति मार्ग से मोक्ष को प्राप्त करता भी हो, तो भी कर्मयोगी को प्रवृति मार्ग से लोकसंग्रह हेतु कर्म के मार्ग से ही मोक्ष प्राप्त करना उत्तम है।

अर्जुन ने अपने शास्त्र ज्ञान के अनुसार प्रथम अध्याय में कहा था कि युद्ध से सैनिक मारे जाते है और बाद में स्त्रियों और बच्चो के संस्कार के लिए बड़े लोग नही रहने से समाज ने वर्ण सकर लोग उत्पन्न होते है और समाज का ह्रास होता है। भगवान श्री कृष्ण कहते है वर्ण सकरता युद्ध में भाग नही लेने से होगी क्योंकि वर्ण और जाति के अनुसार क्षत्रिय यदि समाज की रक्षा नहीं करते और युद्ध नही करते तो यह गलत संदेश सभी ओर फैल जाएगा जिस से समाज को नियमानुसार चलाने में परेशानी होगी, और वर्ण के अनुसार जातियां भी वर्ण सकर होगी।

आज के युग में सनातन धर्म की रक्षा एवम उस के मूल्यों को बनाए रखने के लिए प्रत्येक वर्ण का व्यक्ति अपने वर्ण के अनुसार कार्य नही करता तो यह सनातन धर्म भी वर्ण सकर हो जाएगा। 800 वर्ष के मुगल और अंग्रेजो के काल में अपने वीरों, संतो और दानवीरों ने अपने अपने वर्ण के अनुसार योगदान देने से यह सनातन संस्कृति आज भी विद्यमान है। जिस वर्ग के समाज या मनुष्य स्वार्थ, लोभ और मोह में अपने कर्तव्य का पालन नहीं कर सके, वे लोग ही वर्ण सकर जाति को प्राप्त हुए। इसलिए प्रत्येक वर्ण और आश्रम के लोगो का कर्तव्य है कि वह कर्तव्य कर्म को अपनी जाति, वर्ण, आश्रम के अनुसार सनातन संस्कृति को उन्नति के लिए निष्काम भाव से कर्म करे ।

पीछे के तीन श्लोकों में भगवान् ने जैसे अपने लिये कर्म करने में सावधानी रखने का वर्णन किया ऐसे ही आगे के दो श्लोकों में ज्ञानी महापुरुष के लिये कर्म करने में सावधानी रखने की प्रेरणा करते हैं।
